Homework
Dear Parents,
I am a strong believer that education is a partnership between school and home. I encourage you to take an active role in checking in with your child each day to see what kinds of things they are learning and what is in their homework/Friday folders. Your time is very valuable, and when your child sees you willing to take the time to look at what they are doing in school, the message is clear that school is important. I will check homework daily for completion and overall accuracy, but will not be necessarily "grading" it.
I believe homework serves three purposes: 1.) to give students an opportunity to practice responsibility by completing work and turning it in on time; 2.) to reinforce already taught concepts; and 3.) to give parents an idea of the important concepts being taught in the classroom. I also believe, however, that children need plenty of time after school in the afternoon and evenings to relax, play, and do activities that promote their physical, emotional, and intellectual growth. Homework should not take longer than 35 minutes a day.
I encourage you to set up a scheduled time and a quiet location for your child to do their daily homework. Students should be able to complete assignments independently, but do help if necessary. If you find that your child is unable to complete tasks on their own, or if they are taking much longer than 35 minutes, please send me a note, so we can address the situation in a timely manner.

Homework Folders/Friday Folders
Homework and Friday Folders are an important piece of communication between us, and need to be returned to school daily. This combined folder serves several purposes:
1. Transportation of homework to and from school and home.
2. A spot to send notes back and forth.
3. Important school-wide information is sent home each Friday.
